"People usually can't believe that ecocide isn’t a crime ready!"

Last week, Monica Lennon MSP introduced a landmark new bill to criminalise severe harm to nature in Scotland. The Ecocide (Scotland) Bill could see Scotland become the first UK nation to adopt ecocide law.

Kate Mackintosh, Executive Director of the UCLA Law's The Promise Institute for Human Rights (Europe), spoke to BBC Radio Scotland on the day that a new bill to criminalise mass harm to nature – ecocide – was lodged in the Scottish parliament. She explained why this measure is so urgently needed now and why it holds such popular appeal.
