We’re pleased to share an important upcoming webinar hosted by the International Human Rights Committees of the American Bar Association (ABA) Sections on Civil Rights & Social Justice and International Law. This session will explore the legal, procedural, and moral case for recognizing ecocide as an international crime.

Moderated by Daniel Appelman and Deena Hurwitz, the panel brings together leading experts in international law and environmental justice:

  • Kate Mackintosh, Executive Director and Professor from Practice, UCLA Law Promise Institute Europe

  • Debbie Buyaki, Global Co-Lead and Founder, Youth for Ecocide Law Africa

  • Lisa Oldring, Senior Fellow, UCLA Law Promise Institute Europe

The discussion will focus on the movement to amend the Rome Statute to include ecocide, addressing the ICC’s current inability to prosecute major environmental destruction. This is a vital dialogue for legal professionals working in international, environmental, and human rights law.
