Make sure to join us on Monday, 2 March, for a lecture from the honourable Judge Dire Tladi. This lecture offers an opportunity to hear directly from a sitting international judge on the role, responsibilities, and limits of international adjudication today. Drawing on his experience as judge, scholar, and former government adviser, Judge Tladi will reflect on how international courts engage with complex global challenges, and how legal reasoning is shaped by institutional mandates, historical context, and evolving international realities.

Judge Tladi has served on the International Court of Justice since February 2024. He holds a PhD in Law from Erasmus University Rotterdam and is Professor of International Law at the University of Pretoria. His career spans academic scholarship, international legal development, and public service, including his role as Special Adviser to South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation and his longstanding work with the United Nations International Law Commission.

The lecture will be followed by a conversation with Professor Anna Spain Bradley, MacArthur Foundation Chair in International Justice and Human Rights at UCLA School of Law and Faculty Director of The Promise Institute for Human Rights, followed by a Q&A.The lecture will take place at the T.M.C. Asser Institute in The Hague and will be followed by a reception.
