Meet the Speakers: Dr Olivia Lwabukuna
Dr. Olivia Kokushubila Lwabukuna will chair the opening panel at the International Conference on Ecocide, Human Rights and Environmental Justice: ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐น๐ผ๐ป๐ถ๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐๐บ.
Dr. Lwabukuna is a distinguished Tanzanian legal scholar and lawyer with two decades of experience spanning academia, advocacy, and policy research across Africa and the UK.
Through her work, she actively promotes socio-economic justice and human rights, teaching, influencing policy and engaging with civil society across Africa and the wider Commonwealth.
She is Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London, and holds research positions across leading institutions. Her work focuses on international human rights, African legal systems, natural resource governance, womenโs property rights, and forced displacement, shaping both scholarship and policy on socio-economic justice across the continent and beyond.

The conference will run in two parts:
๐น ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ - 10am-5pm โ International Law expert discussions of papers for the Special Issue of the International Journal of Human Rights on Ecocide.
๐น ๐๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ - 5pm-7:30 โ a drinks reception with international speakers, campaigners, activists, lawmakers, and representatives of states at the forefront of the ecocide campaign offering reflexions suitable for all with an interest in how ecocide, human rights, and environmental justice intersect.
