Meet the Speakers: Krishnee Adnarian Appadoo
This Friday, 31 October, Krishnee Adnarain Appadoo will speak at the International Conference on Ecocide, Human Rights and Environmental Justice in the panel โCorporations and Colonialism,โ chaired by Olivia Lwabukuna.
Krishnee Adnarain Appadoo is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Mauritius, where she teaches Environmental and Climate Change Policy and Law. A Fulbright Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley and a PhD candidate at the University of Western Australia, she also holds an MA in International Studies and Diplomacy. She is the founder of Climate Justice Compact and co-founder and CEO of Mind Matters Mauritius.
Together with Jeevesh Augnoo, Head of the Law Department at Rushmore Business School, she co-authored the article โAnalysing the Relationship between Ecocide and Environmental Justice through a Human Rights Lens: A Study of SIDS and Latin American Countries.โ
Their paper examines how ecocide disproportionately affects Small Island Developing States and Latin American countries, highlighting the links between large-scale environmental destruction, human rights violations, and ongoing colonial and corporate practices. The authors argue that recognising ecocide as an international crime could strengthen protection for vulnerable communities and promote environmental justice globally.
