Meet the Speakers: Lovleen Bhullar and Co-Author Gita Parihar

We are looking forward to welcome 𝗗𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗵𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿, Assistant Professor in Environmental Law at the University of Cambridge, as a speaker at our upcoming conference in London on 31 October.

𝗗𝗿 𝗕𝗵𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿, together with 𝗚𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗵𝗮𝗿, a senior legal consultant specialising in environmental and human rights law, has co-authored the paper "𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘢'𝘴 𝘙𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘎𝘰𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴: 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘌𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦".

Their work explores the synergies between the proposed international crime of Ecocide, the right to a healthy environment, and the rights of nature. Drawing on India’s leadership in recognising these rights, they ask a crucial question:

“𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘎𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘠𝘢𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘢 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯?”

With their deep expertise on the role of law and litigation in tackling environmental challenges, particularly in the Global South, Dr Bhullar will share powerful insights into how legal frameworks can drive real-world environmental justice.

📅 Join us on 31 October in London to hear Dr Bhullar’s perspective on how rethinking legal rights can help safeguard both people and planet.
