Meet the Speakers: Monica Lennon

Monica Lennon is a Scottish Labour and Co-operative Member of the Scottish Parliament for Central Scotland, first elected in 2016.

She currently serves on the Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee, where she focuses on advancing policies that support a just transition and environmental sustainability.

A committed advocate for social justice and gender equality, Monica spearheaded the campaign to end period poverty and introduced the groundbreaking Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act.

We invited Monica to speak at the upcoming 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲, 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲, for her pioneering work to make ecocide a crime.

Her introduction of the (Scotland) Ecocide (prevention) Bill is a landmark moment in Europe, setting out to make severe environmental harm a criminal offence and positioning Scotland at the forefront of efforts to strengthen environmental accountability.

We look forward to hearing Monica discuss environmental advocacy in the UK with Samia Dumbuya, a facilitator and organiser of community-based climate action in London, in a conversation moderated by Damien Short, Professor of Human Rights and Environmental Justice at the University of London.
